The Walk Around the World project primarily aims to encourage students to travel to school on foot, by bike, or by public transport, avoiding the use of parental taxis (Elterntaxis). In many schools, these parental taxis are a major problem: they emit CO2, increase traffic and noise around the school, often ignore traffic rules (e.g., stopping in the middle of the road), create risks for all children, and prevent them from getting physical exercise.

In Walk Around the World, the school routes of all participating children are recorded every week. The total distance covered by all students is then visualized on Google Earth, and the participating classes symbolically continue their journey around the world. This allows students to integrate learning across subjects, exploring topics related to countries, global issues, current events, and more.
